Be enamored by the local cultures of Sabah. On this tour, we explore the fascinating Rungus tribe in Kudat and their longhouses and unique music and dances. Overnight in an actual longhouse followed by rubber tapping and the option to cycle the next day.
Pick up from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu and drive 2½ hours to Kudat. Set off to Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, the picturesque northernmost tip of Borneo for swimming. Visit Kg. Kimihang to see how Virgin Coconut Oil is processed. Check into our Rungus longhouse accommodation in Tinangol Village (mattress and mosquito net provided). Enjoy a traditional-style dinner followed by a colorful cultural performance by the Rungus community. (Lunch & Dinner)
Take our local breakfast before trying rubber tapping. We will then see the locals demonstrate sash and beads making at the longhouse. Did a 15 day tour of Sarawak and Sabah and in every detail Eco tours were tantastic. Great drivers and guides for whom nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful hotels, all centrally located, and great food everywhere we went. Special mention to Sheila in KK whose knowledge and enthusiasm were astounding. I'm now back in the office and back to reality after such an incredible trip thanks to you guys. I had a fantastic time and you well and truly exceeded my expectations.
Our Northern Cultural Safari was great, Adrian was a fantastic guide and such a wealth of knowledge. My Dad was particularly pleased with his knowledge of birds and had a great time bird-watching. The Rungus Longhouse was definitely the highlight, the only thing I wished I could have seen was the weaving of the traditional textiles. Visiting the Coconut Oil project was also a highlight and Ronnie's story was extremely compelling and he was just such great friendly character.
I don't even know where to start with praise for Sukau it was just wonderful, the time we spent there was probably one of the best travel experience we have both had out of all the amazing places we have each visited around the world. The staff were very hospitable and knowledgeable and the wildlife was exceptional. We were very pleased to spot the Pigmy Elephants quite closely on two days and also spotted a wild orang-utan and her baby above the lodge which for me was a dream come true. Dad really enjoyed the night cruises as we got the chance to spot so many beautiful sleeping birds.
Thanks again for putting together such a great trip. I would be happy to fill in an electronic survey in more detail if you would like. I'm looking forward to putting together some programs with you once I get through this pile of work that was awaiting me in the office.
